The setting is a mystical environment known only to a few others than the students of Indian Mythology. Its called RAMA SETU, what we Westerners know as ADAM'S BRIDGE a natural 50 km causeway of sandbars which link the remote Northern tip of Sri Lanka to the Southern tip of India. It's here, when the Trade Winds blow, the magic happens, butter flat water behind the low walls of golden sandbars which create the ultimate kite surf paradise. We call it 'The Water of Progression' a pure unspoiled environment - a once in a lifetime find. Having crossed hundreds of miles of open sea the warm Indian Ocean winds settle to produce some of the best, least gusty conditions in the world - a kiters dream conditions and a great spot to introduce beginners to the sport in the most forgiving of environments and let the intermediates loose to rub shoulders with others of like mind to develop their skills. The home spot is right at the camp and during the dates of our June stay traditionally the wind blows between 14-26 knots requiring kite sizes range from 12-6m dependant upon time of day, weight and experience, so bring the whole quiver bag ! There is rental available but its first come first served and if you know what you want let us know so we can book it in advance to try to avoid disappointment. There's plenty of shallow water at the home spot and with our safety boat always at hand the spot is a super secure environment enabling rapid progression for all comers.
Positioned off the South Western tip of India, formally known as Ceylon, Sri Lanka's varied landscapes range from rainforest and arid plains to highlands and sandy beaches. It's famed for its ancient Buddhist ruins, including the 5th-century citadel Sigiriya, with its palace and frescoes. Sri Lanka's Buddhist roots ensure a welcoming crime free environment so refreshing to find in todays manic world. In this land of Ceylon tea, Sri Lankan cuisine has been shaped by many historical, cultural and other factors, a central feature is boiled or steamed rice, served with a curry of fish, chicken or mutton, along with other curries made with vegetables, lentils, or fruits. Vegetarian friendly, seafood heavy, spicy as Thai food, but light like Mediterranean, Sri Lankan food is delicious.
