The Grenadines offer the some of the best kite conditions in the Caribbean for beginner to advanced riders. Reliable trade winds that blow 15-24 knots from November to July, turquoise warm water, multiple islands to choose from, downwinders, uncrowded beaches and a large variety of kite conditions all accessible right from your base on Salt Whistle Bay. Kiters typically are using 9-12M kites with mostly twin tips and surf boards. No wetsuit is required, water temperature is 27°C (80°F). There are four kite spots in the area. Our home spot at Salt Whistle Bay has shallow, pristine and mostly flat warm water. The small waves or kickers are super fun to ride or use as a ramp for higher jumps. You can also kite at Tobago Cays, 20 minutes away by boat, or two spots on Union Island, also 20 minutes away.

The Destination

The island of Mayreau is in the southern Grenadines. It's 1.5 square miles with about 300 people living in the village that's a 15 minute walk. Tobago Cays is a 20 minute boat ride and the top attraction in the Grenadines (scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean were shot there). Union Island is also 20 minutes by boat, and larger with more restaurants, shops, fruit and veggie stalls, grocery stores, and ATM (there is not one in Mayreau).

Getting There

Union Island has the nearest airport, once you get there, we can recommend a boat taxi to bring you to Mayreau. SVG Air flys into Union Island from many nearby islands, you can go to their website and explore options. You can also come in via Carriacou (part of Grenada) and get picked up there. Typically guests come via Saint Vincent, Barbados, Grenada. Saint Vincent's new international airport opened in March 2017 and should have low-cost international flights by end of 2017. Once on the island, we can recommend boat excursion operators to nearby islands such as Tobago Cays (must see!) and Union Island. During the school year, there is also the school boat that runs 7AM and 4pm, both directions between Mayreau and Union Island.
