The atlantic coast of Spain is the only region in Europe, where you can kitesurf all year round. Best time is from May till September with periods of very strong wind between 20 to 40 knots. Within these months it is best to bring small kites (6-9 m2). In summer water is warm (21-23 degrees), and a Shorty will be enough to keep you warm. The rest oft the year wind is a bit unpredictable, however the chances are still high, that it is suitable for kitesurfing. In the winter month waves are higher and around Caños de Meca you will find many breaks to surf. A 4/3 mm wetsuit will keep you warm during your sessions. If you wish to combine surfing and kitesurfing best months are October and March, April. The bay of Caños faces south, which means that both of the predominant winds of this region, Levante (east) and Poniente (west), blow side-shore. Because of this the bay is perfectly suited for kite and windsurfing. From the house the beach is a 10 minutes walk away. If there is enough swell the bay offers three different waves, a point break and two reef breaks. Tarifa, the "kitesurf capitol" of Spain is a 45 minutes drive away, and El Palmar, which is considered as THE surf place of Andalusia, just a couple of minutes.
Canos de Meca attracts those with a more laid back approach to life, preferring to stretch out by the beach or become one with the waves by indulging in surfing, kite and wind surfing. Its breathtaking scenery, alluring beaches, hypnotic waves and hippy culture make this a dream destination.
