Because of the trade winds, the kitesurfing conditions are great in Cabarete almost the whole year. Between January-March and June-August are the most consistent months for wind. The conditions at kite beach are mostly choppy with small-medium waves forming out at the reef. Encuentro offers amazing waves which are the largest over the winter months. About 7km east of Kite Beach is La Boca- a river mouth offering butter flat water. A three kite quiver is recommended as the wind ranges between 15-25 knots. The air and water temperatures remain warm through the year. A bikini/boardshorts are suitable over the summer and a thin wetsuit/lycra are recommended over the winter.

The Destination

Encuentro is a quiet, peaceful place perfect for enjoying a relaxing holiday filled with surfing and kiting. Rent a moto or jump on a moto taxi to travel between Encuentro, Kite Beach and downtown Cabarete. Cabarete is a lively town full of restaurants, shops and amazing nightlife.

Head out into town in the evenings and enjoy a variety of dining at the beach with everything from American style burger joints to small local restaurants to fruit and veggie stands. Cabarete is a perfect mix of local Dominicans, tourists and expats. Enjoy Cabarete's famous nightlife. Dance Bachata and Salsa all night long in the beach clubs and bars.

Other than kiteboarding, there are many other awesome activities to enjoy around Cabarete. Try yoga, go surfing, stand up paddle boarding, head into the mountains and jump down the 27 waterfalls of Damajagua, visit the National Park El Choco, go mountain biking, hiking, float the river in a tube and so much more!

Getting Around

Getting around in Cabarete is easy. Take the Guagua or caro publico, or rent a car. There is about 6 miles from Encuentro to Downtown Cabarete with Kite Beach directly in the middle.
