Walking distance to spot

The southern side of the Island is a huge lagoon protected by the outside reef. (sorry no close by safe surf spots) High tide is deep and a bit choppy. Low tide in which you have 4 - 5 hours of riding is flat and knee deep at full low tide. There are a couple of sand bars that become exposed then making it ideal for learners. Instructor is available for lessons (must be prebooked) Intermediate and Advanced riders can ride on all tides and all wind directions. We also offer a down winder option from the Eastern Islands about a 12km journey weaving through the Islands back to Mounu. Trade winds blow from April - November from SE - NE 15kts - 25kts. Other months wind are either light or cyclonic mainly from the NE - NW. 10kts - 50kts. Rashie and Shorts can be worn all year although Jul-Sept being winter a shorty is suggested for longer sessions. Most used kites on Island being 9m - 12m. Foiling is possible on all tide conditions for those at an intermediate and above level.

The Destination

The Kingdom of Tonga is one of the last untouched paradises in the World. Nestled in the Pacific Ocean with a deep Polynesian History, the peoples being proud and friendly. Captain Cook named Tonga - "The friendly Islands".

The Experience

From the moment you arrive on the beach at one of the most beautiful Islands in the world you will feel at home.

No more shoes and time to relax and enjoy - whether it be Kiting in pristine clear water free of coral bombies, enjoying cold beers out of the wind whilst still watching kiters out playing, eating local organic gourmet meals, taking in one of the numerous non kiting activities, dancing into the early hours, sitting round a beach fire watching stars, taking a book from the huge library selection to hang out in a bean bag and nap on the beach or play with one of the Islands special four legged pets. Have it all or do as little as you want.

A variety of non-kiting activities are available including SUP boards and Kayaks - the neighbouring Island is only a short distance away and deserted! The snorkeling straight off the Island is teeming with fish life and not far away by boat are other amazing spots including two caves or Diving for those who want to spend a bit more time under the water than above it. Tonga is well known for its Big Game Fishing especially chasing after the Blue Marlin. Land tours of the main Island in Vava'u take in the huge Eastern Cliffs and Village Life of the locals. Yoga happens most days early morning and late afternoons on the yoga deck where you will also find a swiss ball, Exercycle and limited weight selection for use. During July-October Humpback Whales swim past the Island mating and calving and we do head out to swim with these magical beings!

It's the end of the day and time to take in the stunning sunsets with a Mounu signature "Raspberry and Soursop Margarita" or throw back a beer and toss a few cornhole bags around before sitting down to a 3 course gourmet meal. Our chef ensures you dine on fresh healthy meals utilizing local organic produce, fish and seafood. Breads and baking are done daily so the freshest of fresh is only ever used and once a week a traditional Tongan Feast (Umu) is hosted where you can immerse in the way the locals live.

Join the team at Mounu Island and be awakened to new possibilities and leave with your foot prints on the beach and a piece of Mounu in your heart..
