We'll be kiting on lagoons with flat and shallow water, but out on the open water we'll experience some choppy conditions too. Twin tips and surfboards are recommended; we don't recommend foil boards as there are far too many shallow areas. Wind will be blowing between 18-25 knots at that time of the year. We recommend you bring spare or replacement parts (or additional kites & boards) that may be needed in case of equipment failure, or to fit the riding conditions (extra bars and lines, surfboard for waves / skimboard, etc). Keep in mind that there are very few repair shops along the way and at the final destination. For the safety and comfort of everyone taking part, we'll kite along the coast accompanied by a car and do a crossover to Masirah island accompanied by a safety boat.
Bordering with Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the U.A.E., Oman is- for many people- an unusual destination for a kitesurfing holiday. This downwind adventure will take you through traditional fishing towns, steep sand dunes, hidden flat water lagoons, and flamingo filled waters. You'll learn quite quickly that hospitality is at the core of Omani culture, and while we'll be spending lots of time integrating with locals and making new friends, part of the beauty of this trip is that you'll also be able to ride downwind for hours and hours without seeing another human soul.
Downwind Oman is an unforgettable experience; a mix of wind, water, desert, nature, adventure, and physical challenge. The organisers have worked hard to find beautiful hidden lagoons, scenic routes with deserted white sand beaches and endless sand dunes along the way. The staff and crew are expertly trained and will make sure that you are safe, stoked, and making the most of your trip. Food and drinks (non-alcoholic), transport, basic camping & sanitary facilities, campfires and nights under the stars are included.
Who is the trip for?
If you are searching for an adventure, if you want to meet likeminded people from around the world, and if you want to see an amazing country from a different angle, then this is the right trip for you. As far as kiting level is concerned, you should know that these downwinders are not appropriate for beginners or slightly intermediate kitesurfers. Self-rescue, fast relaunch capabilities, and at least 100 hours of kiting experience in various conditions are required to participate.
Your safety is our top priority. We will be with you throughout your journey to provide support and assistance, and to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Our vehicles follow the group along the route, and our trained captains are with you on the water to provide guidance, coaching, water safety, and rescue if necessary. If one person in the group gets tired or has technical issues during the downwinder, the vehicle will stop to land the kite, pack the equipment, load the kitesurfer and follow the remaining kiters.
Whatever the weather, you'll stay cosy inside your heavy duty expedition tent set up in a desert camp on an untouched beach. You'll have access to camping & sanitary facilities as well as a chill out area, where you can grab some shelter from the sun's rays during the day, and kick back in during the evening as we review the day on the water with the rest of the crew.
Shared heavy duty tents (On site)
Tents are strong enough to protect from the elements- even if the wind is blowing. 2 people share each tent.
