Join us for a kite safari along the Caribbean coastline of Colombia and experience the best spots of our lovely country with the guidance of savvy locals! Within six days, you will discover several great kitesurfing spots including: Puerto Velero, Riohacha and Cabo de la Vela. Depending on the preferences of the guests, the itinerary can be changed at any time.
With limited luxuries such as internet and electricity, this safari is the perfect place to unplug and enjoy the nature around you. Spend your days outdoors and take advantage of the strong winds, warm waters and amazing kiting conditions Columbia has to offer. Cabo de la Vela is accessible only by 4x4 leaving it generally uncrowded. The Andes mountains meet the ocean on the coast creating strong and consistent winds along with breathtaking sunsets.
The experience will help you slow down and enjoy a more simple way of life as do the locals of Columbia. Sit back, relax, make new friends and enjoy an experience of a lifetime! This safari is available upon request the whole year round - it takes place when at least 4 participants can be found for a certain date.
Puerto Velero offer butter flat water in the lagoon as well as big swell on the ocean side. The closest city if Puerto Columbia (10 km away) where we will spend the night after a long day on the water. The flat water is perfect for learning!
Riohacha is much more urban than the other two locations. On the other side of the white, sand beach is a promenade where the locals like to sit and spectate. There is a long pier, great for an evening stroll and a few restaurants in town.
Cabo de la Vela
Cabo de la Vela is situated in the very northeast of Colombia near the boarder of Venezuela. The living there is very basic, you sleep in a bungalow or if you like it even a hammock. There is no flowing water, internet is only in case of emergency and there is light only from 6-11 pm.
You will love the beautiful starry sky, the friendly Wayu that offer all kinds of handcrafted souvenirs. If you need a rest from kitesurfing you can visit the Pilon de Azucar or any of the beautiful white beaches around Cabo de la Vela. This is the perfect place to calm down and get the rest you were always looking for.
Pilon de Azucar is a small desert beach cove where the desert meets the ocean about 30 mins from Cabo de la Vela. The contrast of colour between the orange/red sand and the turquoise sea make it one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The morning is the best time to visit before the wind picks up. Go for a swim and enjoy the beautiful colours and unique land formations.
We meet at 10 am in Cartagena and drive 1,5h to Puerto Velero, our 1st kite spot. We will spend the night in Puerto Colombia.
Early birds: at 6 am we leave to our second spot- Camarones (La Guajira)- a 5h drive. The Night we spend in a Hostel in Riohacha.
Another 3h drive to Cabo de la Vela where we will be kiting on day 3. We will spend the night in a Posada (in large hammocks called Chinchorros) right at the beach.
Kiting in Cabo de la Vela all day long!
We will spend the day kiting in n Cabo de la Vela or do an excursion to Pilon de Azucar depending on your interests.
9h ride back home to Cartagena. We can adapt the kite safari to the wishes of the customers. If you for example only wanna see and kite in Cabo de la Vela, we go there directly, the price stays the same.
Itineraries are not binding and the actual itinerary can be adjusted by the host because of unforeseen circumstances or other reasons!
Along the way, we stay at different nice small bungalows, hotels or hammock posadas. Accommodations are included in the Safari.
Different shared rooms in each location are included.
