Only 1 out of 10 islands are inhabited at all! This leaves us a abundance of wind swept beaches to explore. The flatwater kiting and sailing around the Islands is so spectacular that the Cabrinha Off Shore Odysseys listed it as one of the top ten destinations on the planet to kitesurf. The wind season at the San Blas Islands starts in the middle of December until middle of May. Blowing consistently 12 - 25 knots more or less every day. So the ideal kite sizes for this trip are 9, 12, 14 and 17m. One of the many benefits of being on a sailing boat is that we can always sail to windier locations if needed.

The Destination

The local people that live on the islands are called the Kuna, with a fascinating culture they are a wonderful example of an how an indigenous population can flourish with their age old customs while surrounded by the modern world. They are both friendly and welcoming to tourists. The Kuna people protect their land keeping it wild, healthy and beautiful, the best way to experience these islands is by boat. Because the native preserve their land, the wildlife thrives on these islands. You will find a lot of tropical birds, insects and small reptiles as well as marine life such as dolphins, sharks, stingrays, crabs, lobster and much more! The San Blas islands are close to the equator meaning beautiful, warm weather the whole year. Buildings are a rare sight on these islands as a majority of them are completely uninhabited.

The Experience

Over the course of the cruise, you will visit and explore islands and kite spots that few have been. San Blas has been voted one of the best places to kite and sail in the world and it's easy to see why. The marine and wildlife thrive, you will kite with dolphins, turtles, zerba fish and lively corals beneath your feet. Snorkelling gear is available on board for your use and it is highly recommended to snorkel the reefs and experience the marine life for yourself.

To add to the amazing beauty and wildness of the islands, the wind blows almost everyday over the summer. You will get a session in everyday if you desire. Morning and sunset sessions are amazing and these are the times the wind blows the strongest. Evenings will include bonfires on the beach and dinner on the boat. You will leave this trip with life-long friendships and some awesome new kite tricks!

Kiteboarding Lessons

Unlimited free coaching from our on board instructor is included (one-on-one lessons will be an additional cost). Beginners are welcome, though we recommend starting with a week of lessons at our kitesurfing guesthouse in Punta Chame before the trip.

A Light Wind Day?

From December to April the trade winds blow so we expect very consistent wind over the season. However we are working with the elements so in the rare case of a few light wind days we have you covered! We can go on jungle treks to water falls, SUP, Fsshing, snorkelling as well as exploring islands and meeting the Local Kuna.

Day 1

Meet and stay at the hotel Magnolia Inn in Panama City for the night. At 7pm we meet in the lobby and head out to a local restaurant to get to know the group and have a trip briefing.

Day 2

The following morning we set off a 5am for a 3 hour drive to the small Kuna Port. On the way we stop at a super market to give you the chance to buy alcohol and snacks for the week. We then board a small Kuna boat to take us on a short ride to the yacht. Once everyone has settled in on the boat we will have some lunch and set sail to the first set of islands. We hope to arrive in the early evening so we can get out on the water on our first day. We normally stay here for the first evening ...

Day 3 - 4

...and next morning. Then in the early afternoon set sail to the next kite spot . Arrive for an evening & sun set session followed by a beach bonfire and stay at this spot until the following day, then set sail mid day after a morning session. Depending on the groups level we have the option to do a down or cross winder to the next set of islands.

Day 4 - 7

We will then spend the next few days visiting the best spots of the islands. We always sail mid day as the wind is strongest for kiting in the mornings and evenings.

Day 8

After a morning at the islands we start to make our way back to Panama City. Once we arrive there we go for a few drinks to finish the adventure. For a real insight into the trip, watch our video.

Itineraries are not binding and the actual itinerary can be adjusted by the host because of unforeseen circumstances or other reasons!
