Walking distance to spot
The kite spot rests between two lush islands. The surfing area is 750 meters long (across the wind direction), and more than 1 kilometer wide (up wind). During the Amihan-season (October to April) you can look forward to moderate temperatures, little to no rainfall and a steady trade wind from northeast at velocity of 16-28 knots. The wind is offshore, but you do not have to worry, Secret Island has a team standing by with a boat in case you need a rescue back to the island. The kite spot at Secret Island is perfect for beginners, intermediates as well as advanced kiters. The sea bottom is all sand, partly shallow and flat waters. With no sea stars, corals or other unseen dangers, the Kite Spot at Secret Island is great for learning the sport as well as try your hand at freestyling, while waves with little swell can humor the more experienced surfers. Our kite-team can help prepare your equipment, launch you kites while also securing safe surfing and whatever you need help with. Every week we set up downwind tours, with an approximate distance of 10 kilometers in a direct line to the nearby Cabulauan Island. On the island, there is a sandy northeastern beach to land on. A back-up boat will accompany you and the other surfers on the trip and sail everyone back to Secret Island on time for a drink at sunset. If you have a dream of kitesurfing during a full moon or during sunset, then Secret Island is the place!

Secret Island is a remote island located in the Sulu Sea. Out here you won’t have to deal with other tourists. In the neighboring island, you can find the village, Nangalao, with a population of approximately 2000 people, mostly children. Occasionally the locals visit the camp, especially the kids who are avid fans and very curious about kitesurfing. If you visit Nangalao you can get an unforgettable experience by visiting an authentic Philippine village full of welcoming and hospitable people. There is no phone coverage or Wi-Fi on Secret Island. We live in the moment!
As the island is completely isolated from both tourism, telephone signal and news media, Secret Island provides room for immersion, reflection and an authentic cultural meeting with locals from a true Filipino village.
The island has perfect conditions for kite surfing, but it also allows you to exist in the moment. It may come as a surprise to you of how effortless it is to distance yourself from daily life’s stress. Here at Secret Island we can talk about disconnecting – like really disconnecting. In addition, the area offers a wealth of experiences, both with locals, the nature and in the camp.
How to get to Secret Island
You will not need to go through extraordinary lengths like how Leonardo DiCaprio did to reach his tropical paradise as in ‘The Beach’. We can provide several options, listed below. They will all include a beautiful and refreshing sailing trip, although wind and weather occasionally can be playful and give you a wavy sail trip.
You take our boat from Coron, Palawan, Philippines. The boat sails to the island every Tuesday and Friday at 9 a.m., and return to Coron from Secret Island every Monday and Thursday at 10 a.m. We meet at Coron pier at 08.30 a.m. shortly before departure. The trip takes about 5 hours of sailing, where the last 2 hours can be in lively waves due to wind.
The price for a ticket is 20 EUR per person, including lunch and soft drinks. It is important that you make a reservation in good time before departure.
You rent a private Banka boat from wherever you are. Banka boats can only reach the island in good weather conditions (calm wind), so we would not recommend to relying only on this solution.
The price for a one-way ticket is about 130 EUR from Coron or El Nido, and about 75 EUR from Linapacan. Let us know if you want this solution, as we may be able to help with bookings.
You rent a speedboat from the resort Busuanga Bay Lodge (near Coron). It is the fastest way to get to Secret Island - expect about 1.5 hours to get to the Island in this manner.
The price for a one-way ticket is about 260 EUR (max 6 people). We can assist with booking.
If you do not feel for kitesurfing or, contrary to our expectations, there should be no wind, then Secret Island and its neighbor island offers plenty of opportunities. Here is a few we recommend:
-> Relax with a book in the shadow - enjoy the moment and life in particular
-> Hike up to the top of Mt. Secret - once you are there it is a stunning views over the Sulu Sea and surrounding islands
-> Visits the village on the neighbor island
-> Scub up in snorkel gear and go see tropical fishes and maybe a small reef shark
-> Play volleyball with the locals
-> Grab the speargun and shoot your own dinner
-> Go wakeboarding
-> Beat someone in chess, backgammon, mega tumble or a card game
-> Take a SUP ride
-> Enjoy a bunch of drinks and tell your favorite stories
-> Treat yourself with massage - at least once
The heart of the kite camp is the common area, the “bahay kubo” with a large dining table, small cozy areas where you can hang out in fat boys and hammocks - perfect for a nap in between to kite sessions. Here you also find the bar, with cold drinks, beers, coffee & tea as well as cold drinking water. Up to mealtime, you can catch the scent of delicious food spreading out in the whole area, as our local chefs are cooking. A freshly caught fish cooked over a bonfire amongst the rustling coconut palms is one of the kitchen’s authentic sceneries… can you also taste the cold beer and smell the mouthwatering fish right now? Spread around the bahay kubo you find 10 simple bamboo huts - all with a nice view of the spot. Toilet and baths conditions are nice, clean and shared.
