The setting is a mystical environment known only to a few others than the students of Indian Mythology. Its called RAMA SETU, what we Westerners know as ADAM'S BRIDGE a natural 50 km causeway of sandbars which link the remote Northern tip of Sri Lanka to the Southern tip of India. It's here, when the Trade Winds blow, the magic happens, butter flat water behind the low walls of golden sandbars which create the ultimate kite surf paradise. We call it 'The Water of Progression' a pure unspoiled environment - a once in a lifetime find. Having crossed hundreds of miles of open sea the warm Indian Ocean winds settle to produce some of the best, least gusty conditions in the world - a kiters dream conditions and a great spot to introduce beginners to the sport in the most forgiving of environments and let the intermediates loose to rub shoulders with others of like mind to develop their skills. The home spot is right at the camp and during the dates of our June stay traditionally the wind blows between 14-26 knots requiring kite sizes range from 12-6m dependant upon time of day, weight and experience, so bring the whole quiver bag ! There is rental available but its first come first served and if you know what you want let us know so we can book it in advance to try to avoid disappointment. There's plenty of shallow water at the home spot and with our safety boat always at hand the spot is a super secure environment enabling rapid progression for all comers.
This is the REAL DEAL - the archetypal EAT - SLEEP - KITE existence.
You will be living in a retreat on the protected sand banks of Mannar in an Ornitholgists Dream Escape with countless species that can be spotted from your verandah!
With warm water and virtually guaranteed wind for when our guided Adventure is planned, you will find yourself learning beach jump starts, developing air time skills and kiting amongst the turtles on up winders and down winders that will make your toes curl and your face smile an everlasting smile. There's plenty of shallow water for the beginner and we can organise lessons at any level you like.
Opened in 2017 the Kite Camp itself is a built on the Mannar Peninsula right on the SPOT. It's a cool, rustic location with lots of care and attention to detail, consisting of 14 bungalows with verandahs, capable of sleeping up to 4 people, each complete with its own 'open to the stars shower room' . There are deluxe tents too for those who want experience the real outdoor experience.
There's a dinning and stunning chillout zone as well as many areas for relaxation. All meals are included in the price as well as tea and coffee around the clock . Food wise, there is something for everyone, both Western and a local cuisine reflecting the different culture found in the North of Sri Lanka.
Sunsets at the bar are stunning, sipping a carefully crafted cocktail or an ice cold Lion Beer and the complete absence of surrounding ambient light make the fantastic starry nights unforgettable.
The camp also offers Yoga, Massage, SUP, Kayaks and Nature Based excursions, if you can tear yourself away from the focus of Kiting.
Plan to arrive at Colombo Airport before 2.30pm on 4th June . Its here that we will all meet up and the adventure begins as we to take the minibus north, firstly along the highway and then onto the small secondary roads past the ancient city of Anuradhapura to the town of Mannar onto the dirt road to the camp. It's a 300km drive which is about a 6.5 hour drive .
Please note that the availability on this guided event is limited to 12 people so please book early to avoid disappointment.
