Summary
The air temperature in Tulum is, depending on the season, between 20 and 28 degrees, the water temperature of the Mexican Caribbean between 23 and 28 degrees. The kite season goes from November till June (best months: February until May). The wind is smooth and constant with 12 – 25 knots. Most of the time, the wind comes from north east, east or south east, onshore, side-onshore or side-shore. The waves can get 5m high but break at the reef in about 800m distance from the beach. Tulum is a great spot, both to learn kiteboarding as well as to jump into the waves and work on your tricks. We recommend kite sizes from 8 to 14.
The Destination
The Experience
Tulum offers the right wind conditions for different styles of kiteboarding: freestyle, free riding, wave style and downwinders along the reef. The wind at the spectacular coastline in Quintana Roo blows mostly constant. The azure water at the long and beautiful white sand beaches of the Mexican Caribbean is warm and crystal clear. All you need is your board short or bikini. Our package includes a 6-day (7 nights) kite vacation in Tulum.
The package consists of a lot of freestyle action and kiteboarding with our local riders. The program will be adapted depending on the weather and wind situation. Tulum offers great kiteboarding conditions - but offers a lot in case of a no-wind day, too.
You experience our snorkel tour in three cenotes of the Mayan underground world. The half cavern cenote leads you into an underwater world of decorations such as stalactites, which you have never seen before. You will swim through areas where access is restricted, as you can only enter with a guide and flashlights. You will see bats flying. The open cenote is small but no less beautiful; a real jewel where you feel like swimming in a giant tank with hundreds of fishes, plants and flowers. It’s the perfect place to relax and take a bit of sun. The 3rd cenote is the only one in Tulum where you can jump in from an 18 ft. platform. It has an amazing island of mangroves and clouds of sulfates if you know how to go down (free diving 20 ft.).
On bikes we visit the famous Maya Ruins which lays on the other side of the coast. If you are an early bird we can do this tour in the morning hours and enjoy the beautiful sunrise there.
In two Yoga classes at the beach you will have a good possibility to stretch your body after a long kiteboarding sessions.
At one evening we guide you to Tulum’s nightlife and start with a taco dinner at a local restaurant. While going for a drink afterwards you need to try a Mezcal. It is produced like the Tequila out of agaves but in a different procedure. Nightlife in Tulum is mostly very busy and there are many options to dance all night long.
On top to the week in Tulum, we may add a 3 day trip to El Cuyo - the favorite spot of the local riders.
The organizer reserves the right to change the program, e.g. due to wind conditions.
Optional Trip to El Cuyo
El Cuyo is a small little fishing village on the eastern golf coast of the Yucatan peninsula. A paradise for kite boarders, which is known for its long and lonely beaches. The spot is famous among the local riders because of the consistent wind conditions, the strong “Norte” in winter and the thermal wind in the afternoon from March on. It’s a spot where you can enjoy nature, flamingos, sea turtles, the pink water lagoon and peaceful sunsets. El Cuyo is a 2.5 hrs drive from Tulum and we do a 3-day-trip there with kiteboarding, fishing and barbecue. Fresh fish is guaranteed. We'll stay in double rooms in a beach house directly at the beach of El Cuyo.
included:
- transfer Tulum - El Cuyo - Tulum
- 3 days of kiteboarding with supervision
- 2 nights in a beach house
- 2hrs of private lessons per day
- downwinders assisted by boat
- barbecue night with fresh fish
