The strong thermal winds in Murtosa make it one of the best kitesurfing spots close to Porto. There is wind almost the whole year between 20-30 knots, though the best months by far are from May until September. A shorty wetsuit is needed in the summer months, and a full 3/2 wetsuit is necessary over the winter. The water is flat/choppy depending on the wind strength. You can either have flat water inside the lagoon or ride some waves on the coast line. It is up to you and perfectly suitable for riders that want to explore different kitesurf conditions. It is also suitable for groups and couples with different kite levels. In Murtosa, close to Porto, you will have all the conditions within a few hundred meters.
The town of Murtosa is a small fishing village 10km from Aveiro and 40km from Porto. Lessons and coaching are available for all levels of riders. The shallow, flat water lagoon is perfect for beginners as well as learning new freestyle tricks. It is one of the closest kitesurfing spots from Porto. Head to the coast to practice wave riding or join in on our amazing 10 downwinder through the channels. Hydrofoil lessons are also available.
