Summary
Flag Beach is located in the far north of Fuerteventura. This beach marks the beginning of nearly 7 kilometers of pristine white sand, about half of which is marked off for kitesurfing. The wind blows 15-20 knots cross-shore during the high season, which makes for favourable learning conditions. The kiteboarding season runs from March until November (though it's still possible to kite during the winter months, the conditions can get pretty wild with strong unreliable wind and big waves). During the peak season, the most common kite sizes are 9 and 12 meters (for average weight riders). During the summer months, you most likely won't need a wetsuit (though some do still choose to wear a shorty). However, the autumn and early spring months can be somewhat cooler, so expect to wear a full wetsuit (2/3/4mm).
The Destination
The Experience
Flag Beach is "the home of kitesurfing on Fuerteventura", and Flag Beach Watersports Center were the very first to open a kite school on the island back in 1988. The school has an exclusive beach front location on what is arguably one of the best beaches in the Canaries.
Kitesurfing
The team's number one priority is to make sure that every guest has the best experience possible, and to that end, every beginner kitesurf package can be tailored according to the exact wishes of the individual. That said, the typical beginner package includes 13 hours of kiteboarding lessons spread over 4 days. All beginner lessons are taught by boat, allowing maximum space and safety for every kiter on the water (this also means you'll also have total flexibility to move around the island to find the best conditions). On each boat, there will be a maximum of 6/7 students with 3 instructors. The first day is spent on the beach learning the theory, how to launch and fly the kite and all about safety.
The Team
Since 1988, the Flag Beach team have been bound together by their shared love of watersports. Since then, they've been collectively refining their crafts and developing the most effective teaching methods possible. Between all team members, there are 5 languages and 5 different specialities of kitesurfing: freeride, freestyle, new school, wave riding and racing.
